The City of Boroondara operates a central registration service  on behalf of participating kindergartens. The purpose of central registration is to ensure a system of kindergarten registration, allocation and enrolment that is consistent, accessible and equitable for families.

This central registration service allocates places in 27 standalone three and four-year-old kindergartens. Please visit the participating kindergartens web page to view a description of each kindergarten and their session times. This service does not allocate kindergarten places at long day care centres.

    Important information:

    When to start 3-year-old kindergarten

Children enrolling for a 3-year-old kindergarten program must turn 3 years of age by 30 April.

If your child is born between 1 January and 30 April, your child can start 3-year-old kindergarten after their 3rd birthday, or at the start of Term 1 in the year they turn 4.

Due to staffing requirements, some services may ask that children start attending kinder only after their third birthday. This may mean that some children may not start attending their kinder program until part-way into Term 1.

The age your child starts kindergarten directly relates to the age they will start primary school. When enrolling at three-year-old kindergarten, we encourage families to consider the age they would like their child to start school.

Speak to your local kindergarten or Maternal and Child Health Nurse about the best time for your child to start at three-year-old kindergarten.

Use the City of Boroondara's kindergarten dates calculator to calculate when your child can attend kindergarten.

Find out more by visiting Sending your child to kinder on the Victorian Government website.

    When to start 4-year-old kindergarten

Children enrolling for a 4-year-old kindergarten program must turn 4 years of age by 30 April but can begin attendance from the start of Term 1.

Children can go to kindergarten when they're 6 years old if they have a disability, developmental delay or it's a special situation.  Find out more by visiting Going to kindergarten if your child is 6 years old | vic.gov.au
