The City of Boroondara operates a central registration scheme on behalf of participating member kindergartens. The purpose of central registration is to ensure children are allocated a kindergarten place fairly, equitably and consistently.

This central registration scheme applies to funded three and four-year-old member kindergartens only. The member kindergarten pages provide a description of each participating kindergarten and their individual programs and session times.

Kindergarten starting age

Your child has to be 3 years old on or before 30 April to be eligible to attend 3-year-old kindergarten in that year. If your child is born between 1 January and 30 April, your child can start 3-year-old kindergarten after their 3rd birthday, or at the start of Term 1 in the year they turn 4.

Children enrolling for a 4-year-old kindergarten program must turn 4 years of age by 30 April but can begin attendance from the start of Term 1.

Use this application if registering:

• a child not previously registered in the central registration scheme.

Do not use this application if registering:

• a child that has previously registered for kindergarten through the central registration scheme.  This includes applications made prior to 12 February 2024.  A unique link will be emailed to you on the 1 May registration opening date the year prior to attendance. 
  
  
• a current 3-year-old child attending a member kindergarten transitioning to 4-year-old kindergarten. A unique link will be emailed to you on 1 May to submit your kindergarten group preferences.
